The two areas where these 5 million trees would be planted are Haiti and China’s Horqin Desert which are the most affected regions due to deforestation.

Help Timberland to Plant Trees

For increasing participation by the people around the globe to their efforts of reforestation, Timberland has launched a new Timberland Earthkeepers Virtual Forest, which is a Facebook application created by digital marketing agency, Bridge Worldwide.

The application users on Facebook can help Timberland plant additional trees in Haiti beyond the 5 million targets by creating a virtual forest on Facebook. The larger the virtual forest grows by the efforts of its users the more number of real trees would get planted.

Users of this application can name their forests or add messages on friend’s trees. They can also see their rankings against other players.  Several videos also feature in the application which introduces the farmers participating in Yele Vert proving in-depth information regarding Timberland’s reforestation efforts.

These videos also explain how the efforts of the users through their online actions contribute to the company’s program. The real-world impact of the virtual forest program completes with plantation of 1 million trees or October 31, 2011, whichever is earlier. Through the launch of this application, Timberland aims to provide people an opportunity of being engaged and on the other hand support a meaningful program in its efforts.
